Jennifer López and Alex Rodriguez have officially ended their four-year relationship and two-year engagement, according to a joint statement the former couple made to TODAY.

“We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so,” the statement read. “We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. We wish the best for each other and one another’s children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support.”

Last month, it was reported that López and Rodriguez had called off their engagement, but the power couple denied the news as “inaccurate” at the time.

In a joint statement, they said, “We are working through some things.”

More rumors swirled this week when López posted photos of herself not wearing her engagement ring from the set of her new romantic comedy Shotgun Wedding in the Dominican Republic.

López and Rodriguez first met at a baseball game at Shea Stadium in 2005 when Rodriguez was playing with the New York Yankees. López was married to musician Marc Anthony at the time. They have two children. Rodriguez was married to Cynthia Scurtis, and also have two children.

In 2017, López and Rodriguez reconnected when they ran into each other at a restaurant and made dinner plans. The couple continued dating through 2017 and 2018 and spent time together as a blended family.

In January 2019, López told Harpers Bazaar that, “I’ve got two amazing kids and a great boyfriend. I don’t have everything figured out, and everything isn’t perfect. But I feel very proud that with all the things I’ve gone through in my personal life, I’m still optimistic and hopeful.”

Two months later, Rodriguez popped the question during a vacation in the Bahamas, and López said yes.
