While you may want to sing at the top of your lungs and dance every time Selena‘s “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom” comes on, you probably never thought you could build a whole birthday party off a three-minute, 28-second video. But one Los Angeles mom did just that, and the result was glorious.
About a week ago, Lily Martinez planned an intimate party for her 6-year-old daughter, whom she calls SeliBeli. The party featured a palm tree background, inflatable crayons, and flowers – all of which reference the original video. And to top it off, Seli had three outfits changes; she wore two outfits from the video (a black tulle dress over a white tee, and a jean vest paired with a long floral skirt and white tee) and a third outfit modeled after Selena’s most iconic outfit, the purple jumpsuit.
The attention to detail is impressive, and it’s not surprising considering Lily and Seli watched the video repeatedly. “Seli and I must of watched Selena’s ‘Bidi Bidi Bom Bom’ music video more times than I can count for inspiration on her party,” she wrote on Instagram. “Seli is obsessed with her denim vest and couldn’t wait to wear the wardrobe from the video.”
In a more emotional post, Lily broke down why she wanted to go all out for Seli, who is a funny, easygoing kid with three loving older brothers. “Although her 6th Birthday Party was small & intimate with just family, I still wanted it to feel like a big celebration,” she wrote. “She loved it all, especially because she was part of the process, she was very much involved.”
