As we’ve seen time and time again, you can be minding your business, just chatting in Spanish, and someone will feel the need to criticize and shame you. This is what happened to Ricardo Castillo, who is of Puerto Rican descent, recently at the Burger King he manages in Eustis, Florida.

Two women, who were eating their meals, overheard Ricardo speaking in Spanish. “Go back to Mexico if you want to keep speaking Spanish,” the woman said to him.

“Guess what, ma’am? I’m not Mexican,” Ricardo replied. “You’re being prejudiced, and I want you out of my restaurant right now.”

The interaction was recorded by Neyzha Borrero, a customer. “When I heard ‘You cannot speak Spanish in public,’ I grabbed my phone and I was like, ‘Hold up.'”

While Castillo said he would call the police if the women didn’t leave, NBC News reports that Eustis police was not notified of the incident. The women did end up leaving, taking their racism with them.
