As great of a boxer as Canelo Álvarez is, he might very well be an even better human being. The undisputed boxing champion of the world recently donated $1 million to Nariz Roja, a children’s cancer treatment center in Guadalajara, Mexico.
This past weekend, Nariz Roja thanked Álvarez for the donation on social media. “For time and time again…you have opened your heart to champions fighting cancer,” the post reads. “You are the miracle of many children and women. You are a champion of life!”
Álvarez responded to Nariz Roja’s tweet with three praying hands emojis. Last year, he helped raise another $1 million for the organization and commented on a video that they posted online thanking him. “How good this makes me feel,” he wrote after watching two children speak about his gift. “I do this with a lot of love.”
In the past, Álvarez has also donated medication and hundreds of medical kits for COVID-19 to hospitals in Guadalajara.
After his large donation to Nariz Roja, many fans online took notice as the boxing champion’s giving nature.
This past weekend, Álvarez took home about $40 million after defeating his opponent Caleb Plant in the ring. After the fight, Álvarez showed Plant some respect by letting him know he was a good fighter and telling him “You are my family.”
