When Miguel Sanchez and coworker Jesse arrived to a Century City complex to do repairs, they were subjected to a racist assault by a resident. In a video he shared of the encounter, Rhonda Michelle Polon is seen blocking Jesse from entering the premises. After reportedly calling them “wetbacks,” she threw scalding hot coffee directly into Sanchez’s face. As the story has been widely shared, Polon is now speaking out and defending herself from those who have called her a racist.

“I’m not a racist,” she said, admitting that she now regrets the incident, according to KTLA. “None of those things have ever come out of my mouth. I may have a temper at some points, but I am not a racist person.”
After a string of burglaries, Polon said she was concerned that the two men were trying to gain access without permission. However, this explanation only serves to prove that she was motivated by her own prejudices.
“I’m completely sorry for throwing the coffee,” she added. “They were now coming at me from both sides and it scared the hell out of me.”
