All our attention may be turned to the recently announced Gilmore Girls revival, but past it landing Alexis Bledel on “Stars You Didn’t Know Were Latino” lists, there’s not much going on in Stars Hollow that speaks to our Latinidad. That is, until artist Julio Salgado took a swing at it.
Salgado, artist projects coordinator at CultureStrike, revisited some of the shows he grew up watching, and he found that they had something in common: well-developed characters who were white. “We recently heard about that hashtag [where] white Star Wars fans were dying because POC characters were included in the latest movie,” he said on Facebook. “Now, I don’t know shit about Star Wars, but I know racism when it’s slapping us [on] the interwebs. So I took the liberty (cos, I mean, white people be doing that shit when it comes to making POC characters into white characters) to include us POC into some of my favorite shows and sitcoms.”
