Daddy Yankee Announces Divorce After Almost 30 Years of Marriage — Here’s What He Said

After retiring from music and becoming a man of God, Daddy Yankee has another big announcement. The Puerto Rican icon and his wife Mireddys González are divorcing, after being together for nearly three decades.
DY broke the news earlier today (December 2) via Instagram stories. He wrote in Spanish: “With a heart full of respect and honesty, I want to share some important news about my personal life. After more than two decades of marriage and after many months of trying to save my marriage, which my wife and I share, today my lawyers are responding to the divorce petition received from Mireddys.”
He continued: “My faith in Christ has been my refuge at all times, and was a constant guide as we tried to overcome our differences. I respect Mireddys’ decision and I am grateful for the time we shared, full of blessings and values, love and a beautiful family that will continue to be our priority.”
He also wrote that this is not an easy moment but that he understands it’s a part of his life’s process; and that he has to accept it and continue. He also says he has to protect his stability, his children, and everything that he’s built over the years.
Before signing off the official statement, he thanked everyone who has been following his journey and asked for privacy. “Thank you for your prayers and for always allowing me to share my music and my life with you. Now more than ever I trust that God has a purpose for every stage of our lives.”
Daddy Yankee reportedly met Mireddys when they were in high school and got married in 1995. The couple share a daughter and a son. DY has another daughter from a previous relationship.
