Who: Yai is a Madrid-born artist who moved to the States to pursue her art. Yai’s work is full of bright colors and cartoon-like characters(some with a little Keith Haring influence), which instantly light up a canvas. I discovered Yai through local Phoenix artist Ashley Macias, whose work is just as fresh and fun.
Why You Should Follow Her: As we’ve been discovering, Phoenix has a sprawling and exciting art scene that is bubbling and ready to make its imprint on the national scene. Yai is included among some of the most promising artists in Phoenix (recommended by one of our Locals Liliana Gomez) and she if there is an art show or new mural, Yai’s work is always near. Having a recent show at PHX spot Palabra Hair.Art.Collective, Yai’s geometric and cartoon-like aesthetic is definitely making some noise on the scene.
