Nine Latine actors, politicians, athletes, and community leaders made this year’s TIME100 Next List, which celebrates the world’s rising stars.

The nine who made the cut are singers Kali Uchis, Peso Pluma, and Ice Spice, actress Rachel Zegler, climate activist Xiye Bastida, baseball player Ronald Acuña Jr., writer and comedian Julio Torres, and politicians Ana Paulina Luna and Luis Donaldo Colosio Riojas.

The TIME magazine profiles also come with essays from well-known names. In Rachel Zegler’s case, for example, the essay was written by the iconic Rita Moreno. Kali Uchis was written by Encanto’s Diane Guerrero. And Ice Spice’s essay was written by writer and comedian Ziwe.

Some of the names on the list are household names.

Kali Uchis has skyrocketed in the past year with collaborations with Karol G, Gorillaz, and Juanes. Ronald Acuña Jr. has been making MLB history while leading the Atlanta Braves to the best record in baseball and the MLB playoffs. Ice Spice just won a VMA for Best New Artist, has a song on the Barbie soundtrack, and her friendship with Taylor Swift has been widely documented online.

Zegler’s star, meanwhile, has risen ever since she starred in the remake of West Side Story and later the second Shazam! movie. She will next play Snow White in Disney’s live-action adaptation of the beloved animated movie. Peso Pluma has been making waves in the music industry with his unique sound inspired by Mexican regional music. And Julio Torres, best known for Los Espooky’s just finished his directorial debut where he starred alongside Tilda Swinton.

TIME Magazine‘s stated purpose for the TIME100 Next list is to “push us forward, showing what is possible as well as what society’s future and future leaders will look like.”
