The United Kingdom is getting ready for the Platinum Jubilee, a celebration of the queen’s 70 years on the throne. It is the longest any monarch has sat on the throne so people are preparing for a massive four-day celebration of her life and legacy, including Lin-Manuel Miranda. The composer behind Hamilton and In The Heights is working on a special, and secretive, project for the celebration.
As the celebration draws closer, we are all learning little bits of information about what to expect. It will likely be a long time till the U.K. is treated to another Platinum Jubilee so you know that special guests are pulling out all the stops. Miranda is teaming up with Andrew Lloyd Webber, the man behind Phantom of the Opera, to create a performance telling the story of the queen’s life since taking the throne.
Fans of both Webber and Miranda are excited to see the two collaborating, because it just makes sense for two musical geniuses to work together for something this grand. It is all very hush hush so there isn’t a lot of information to give but we know that Miranda always delivers.
Some Hamilton are really hoping for Miranda to take on the British monarchy the same way he did in his world-renowned play. Like, while we all know that likely won’t happen, a musical theater fan can always dream that Miranda will use his international Platinum Jubilee stage to really go for it in the name of art.
We are all watching you, Lin-Manuel Miranda. We know this is going to be fantastic.
