Ahead of RBD’s upcoming reunion, Maite Perroni announced that she’s pregnant on Friday (January 6). The Mexican singer and actress was instantly showered with loving words by her bandmates.
Back in October, Perroni married her husband, former Sale El Sol correspondent Andrés Tovar, in Mexico. Her RBD bandmates Anahí, Christian Chávez, and Christopher von Uckermann were in attendance. During the afterparty, Anahí rounded up Perroni, Chávez, and von Uckermann for an impromptu sing-along to the band’s classic “Sálvame.” Last month, Perroni, Anahí, Chávez, von Uckermann, and Dulce María announced that they will reunite as RBD.
Alfonso “Poncho” Herrera decided to opt out of the reunion.
Perroni announced her pregnancy in a special way on Instagram. Friday was Día de los Reyes Magos, or Three King Day. Mexican families traditionally celebrate the holiday with a rosca with baby Jesus figures hidden inside of it. When Perroni cut into her rosca, a message appeared that read: “Now we’re 3.”
The video also showed three stockings hanging on Perroni’s fireplace. The third stocking with a question mark contained another message. “Andrés and Maite left their letter under the tree and their greatest wish came true: they are going to be a mom and dad!” read the note.
All of Perroni’s RBD bandmates congratulated her on the news in the comments section. “Ay ay ay congratulations!! How exciting!” Dulce María wrote. “Baby, we are waiting for you with all the love in the world, your aunts and uncles,” Anahí wrote. “We will love you from the first second and I will always be here for you.” Von Uckermann commented, “What a beautiful video.” After commenting with multiple heart emojis, Chávez added, “I ran out of emojis.”
RBD will be reuniting on Jan. 19. And some fans were wondering if her pregnancy could affect the band’s plans for a reunion and possible tour. “Now that Maite is pregnant, is the tour canceled or what?” wrote one fan on Twitter with a crying emoji. “The fact that Maite is pregnant does not have to change anything about the projects that RBD has,” another fan wrote.
RBD’s manager Guillermo Rosas liked a post on Twitter that said the band’s reunion will be unaffected by Perroni’s pregnancy. “Maite’s news is not going to change RBD’s plans,” the post read. “They already knew that Maite was pregnant and if they continued with the plans to reunite as a group it’s because she accepted and I wouldn’t be surprised. Maite has always been a brave and hardworking woman. Don’t worry, rebeldes.”
