Actor Nicholas Galitzine (Red, White & Royal Blue) looks genuinely surprised when the subject of a recent viral video featuring his co-star Anne Hathaway (The Devil Wears Prada) comes up during an interview with Remezcla about their new rom-com, The Idea of You. The film is based on the novel of the same name by author Robinne Lee and music is a key component to the story as a whole.

In the video, Hathaway is dancing to Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda” at a Versace party during Milan Fashion Week this past February. The Oscar-winning actress laughed when asked about her viral moment. Galitzine let out a stunned, “You did!?” as Hathaway started laughing in surprise before asking, “Did I?” She did.

If Minaj’s 2014 single, in fact, puts Hathaway in the mood to dance, we wondered what Latine artists she can’t help but dance to. “God, where to start?” Hathaway, 41, tells us. “The first person that came to my mind was Anitta, and then the second person that came to my mind was Shakira.” When Anitta’s name came up, Galitzine, 29, responded with, “She’s dope.”

Although she’s not Latina, both Hathaway and Galitzine also enjoy the music of Spanish singer-songwriter Rosalía. “I’m going to actually faint because I love [Rosalía] so much,” Hathaway said. “‘Malamente’ had me in its grips for five months straight. When I get obsessed with a song, it goes so deep. It just kind of takes over my brain.”

In The Idea of You, Hathaway plays Solène, a 40-year-old single mom. While she isn’t obsessed with the songs performed by a popular boy band that she sees at a music festival, she is smitten by its 24-year-old lead singer, Hayes (Galitzine). The two meet at Coachella when Solène takes her teenage daughter and her friends to the event.

Sparks fly and Solène and Hayes are caught up in a romantic relationship that is criticized by fans because of their age difference. It’s not an issue Galitzine has had in other movies he’s starred in where most of his love interests are around his own age. In the past few years, his characters also seem to find themselves falling in love with Latines.

In the 2021 version of Cinderella, Galitzine played “Prince Charming” opposite Cuban-Mexican actress Camila Cabello’s title character. In 2022’s Purple Hearts, he fell in love with a character played by Colombian actress Sofia Carson. Then, in the 2023 rom-com Red, White & Royal Blue, Galitzine played Prince Henry of Britain who fell in love with the U.S. President’s Latino son Alex Claremont (Taylor Zakhar Perez).

“[They were] so wonderful in their own way,” Galitzine said when asked about his previous co-stars and the chemistry he shared with them. “You’re only as good as the sum of your parts in a movie and I’m so thankful.”

Hathaway quickly jumped in to tell Galitzine that before she was cast in The Idea of You, she had heard great things about working with him. “I actually read about what other co-stars said about you,” she said. “They all talked about how much chemistry they have with you. I was like, ‘That’s very exciting!’”

In a People magazine interview last year, Perez said of Galitzine, “as soon as we started chatting, we just vibed.”

The Idea of You premieres on Prime Video on May 2, 2024.
