Maluma tapped into the pachuco style with his appearance at the 2025 Met Gala in an extravagant emerald suit by Willy Chavarría.

Earlier today (May 5), Mexican-American designer Chavarría stepped out on the blue carpet in one of his own custom pink suits. He said that his designs are tied to the theme of Black Dandyism because “the Pachuco look is the quintessential dandy from the 30’s and 40’s representing Latinos and Black (people) who dressed as a form of resistance to beauty.”

Chavarría, who draws inspiration from his Chicano heritage, also dressed Maluma in one of his suits at the event.

Maluma walked the Met Gala carpet in a suit that fully encompassed the quintessential pachuco style. The emerald fabric of the outfit featured a floral texture. The pachuco details included a black bolero-style hat adorned with pink roses, his rose-colored tie, and the gold pocket watch chain. Maluma evoked more of that vintage aesthetic in his double-breasted blazer.

The 2025 Met Gala put a spotlight on Black styling and tailoring with the 2025 spring exhibition titled “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” The exhibit draws inspiration from Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, and “feature garments, paintings, photographs, and more—all exploring the indelible style of Black men in the context of dandyism, from the 18th-century through present day.”

As for the night of the Met Gala itself, the dress code was “Tailored for You.” Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour was joined by co-chairs Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and Pharrell Williams.
