Weddings are supposed to be about what you love. A couple in León, Guanajuato really loved Saint Seiya (Los Caballeros del Zodiaco), and made sure to celebrate that love during their special day. The church they got married in, however, wasn’t all that thrilled about it, as they’ve now banned costumes for weddings after the themed affair.
The Archdiocese of León announced the new policy in a statement that read: “No other situation will be permitted from now on that could harm or violate the integrity of the faith and the dignity of the sacraments, and if such a case were to arise, I ask my brother priests to suspend the celebration.”
Costume weddings aren’t common in Mexico, but they are also not unheard of and they have generally been permitted. The Archdiocese, however, considered the level of costume in this wedding was disrespectful and has therefore proceeded with an outright ban that will apply to anyone seeking to get married from now on.
Saint Seiya was a very popular anime in Latin America in general in the 80s and 90s, where it aired as Los Caballeros del Zodiaco. Videos of the wedding processing show that the bride is in a white dress, but the groom is fully dressed like one of the Gold Saints, specifically in what appears to be Seiya, the show’s main character, in the Sagittarius Golf Saint armor. Guests were also dressed in show-specific attire.

They say make sure you incorporate what you love in your wedding, and this couple certainly did that.
