Lots of attention has been paid lately to Cuba’s 20-somethings. This is the generation who will inherit a new, embargo-free Cuba – a nation that is opening up to the modern world after decades of isolation. Despite the obstacles, Cuba’s youth has been described as tech-savvy and creative, ready to connect with the world at large. And they’re already connected in many ways, as evidenced by a beautiful photo essay by Edu Bayer published in Foreign Policy. Though we weren’t crazy about the title (“Hipsters of Havana”… can we retire the word hipster already? It’s 2015), many of these portraits of Cuba’s youth could have been taken in Williamsburg, Silver Lake, or any other enclave known for the young and trendy.
