- Dozens of protesters have been arrested in Louisville after a grand jury failed to indict any officers for the murder of Breonna Taylor. In the evening on Wednesday, reports emerged that two officers had allegedly been shot and were being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. A suspect has been taken into custody. [WaPo]
- Donald Trump said at the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast on Wednesday that he plans to sign an executive order that will ensure that all babies born alive, which includes babies born prematurely or those that survive abortions, receive medical care. Democrats argue that the order is empty lip service such instances are rare and a federal law that covers similar cases already exists.[The Hill]
- Joe Biden and Donald Trump are facing tight poll numbers in three conservative states that Trump won in 2016. Biden leads Trump by three points in Iowa, while the two remain tied in Georgia. Trump is leading by three points in Texas, but his nine-point lead from 2016 has fallen drastically. Meanwhile, Biden seems to be making inroads with conservative women and leads Trump in this demographic in places like Iowa. [NYT]
- A new poll shows that nearly three-quarters of Puerto Ricans who are living on the U.S. mail, with 42% saying they’re either very concerned and 32 percent saying they’re somewhat concerned about voting in person because of COVID-19. Half said they will vote by mail, but about 1 in 4 shared that they’re not familiar with by-mail voting practices in their state. [NBC Latino]
- Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro blasted sanctions and denounced what he called “criminal, inhuman aggression” from the United States aimed at ousting him from his government during a pre-recorded address to the U.N. General Assembly. The speech marked one of his first recent global appearances, but avoided any mention of a recent U.N.-backed report that charged him with crimes against humanity. [AP]
- Yaltiza Aparicio, the star of Roma, was featured in a new campaign with Dior calle “Dior Stands with Women,” designed to empower and celebrate women across the entertainment and beauty industry. Her video portrait features her speaking in Spanish, saying, “For me, being a woman means being strong, always holding your head up because whatever people say, you must be sure of what you are capable of.” The campaign also includes model Paloma Elsesser.
