Ricky Martin has taken over the headlines this past week, and none of it is very good news. On Saturday (July 2), representatives for the singer and actor made a statement denying recent domestic abuse allegations after a restraining order was made against Martin in Puerto Rico.
“The allegations against Ricky Martin that lead to a protection order are completely false and fabricated,” Martin’s reps told People magazine. “We are very confident that when the true facts come out in this matter, our client Ricky Martin will be fully vindicated.”
On social media, Martin called the allegations “completely false” and said he would let the judicial process play out. “Because it is an ongoing legal matter, I cannot make detailed statements at this time. I am grateful for the countless messages of solidarity, and I receive them with all my heart.”
According to the Associated Press, a judge signed the order on Friday (July 1) under Law 54, which is known as the Domestic Abuse Prevention and Intervention Act. The person who filed the complaint is unknown.
Last week, Martin’s troubles started when his former manager, Rebecca Drucker, filed a lawsuit against him claiming that he owed her $3 million in unpaid commissions. Drucker managed Martin from 2014 to 2018 and again from 2020 to 2022.
“With Rebecca at his side, Martin made millions of dollars and therefore owes Rebecca substantial commissions,” the complaint reads. The complaint also claims that with her help, Ricky Martin was able to continue his career after a “potentially career-ending allegation” arose in September 2020. Drucker resigned from her position in April 2022.
