Rio Uribe Launches Chicano Inspired Pride Collection

Nothing quite compares to the practical nature of a messenger bag. Equal parts spacious, durable, and comfortable, they easily become a go-to accessory for the on-the-go consumer, factors that have kept Chrome Industries, the original messenger bag label, growing. Now, Chrome’s Creative Director, Rio Uribe, is launching a new iteration of their iconic bags, drawing inspiration from LA Chicanos and Lowrider culture to bring a colorful collection to life.
The Urban Rose collection by Chrome x RIO features a series of sling back waterproof gear in pink and black colorways with colorful, embroidered roses on the outer facade. The roses are inspired by the classic lowrider Gypsy Rose. The interior lining features the familiar black cholo bandana pattern with a twist– neon roses and a constellation of the Chrome Industries and Rio Logo.
The collection was designed to celebrate LGBTQ+ and BIPOC folks, with proceeds from sales going to Somos Familia Valle, a local non-profit organization that supports the LGBTQ+ community in Los Angeles.
For Uribe, the collection is more than just ”cool gear”.
“We aimed to create pieces that not only serve a purpose but also tell a story about community, identity, and self expression. Every element of this collection is deeply intentional and symbolic. The metallic materials mirror the bold paint jobs of LA’s iconic lowrider cars. Embroidered roses in rainbow hues honor LA’s diverse and thriving queer community. The custom bandana print lining is a nod to LA’s street style. The result is a collection that pays homage to the vibrant culture of Los Angeles and its colorful citizens,” says Rio about the launch.
Uribe was appointed Creative Director for Chrome Industries in September 2024, which saw the release of the first Chrome X Rio handbag collection which sold out worldwide.
The Urban Rose Collection is available on Chromeindustries.com. The bags will be available in 5 sizes, and will range between $50 and $250.
