Selena Gomez holds many titles including singer, actress, and executive producer but now she can add “chef” to the list (or home cook, rather). Gomez is taking on the culinary world in her new HBO Max series “Selena + Chef,” premiering Aug. 13 on HBO Max. The foodie enjoys experimenting in the kitchen and, with the help of some of Los Angeles’ most respected chefs, is learning how to make their famous dishes.

“Hi, I’m Selena Gomez, and I really love to eat. But I’m not the best cook,” Gomez says in the trailer. True to form, she keeps it real. While being schooled by acclaimed chefs, her attempts are sometimes a fail but she doesn’t let it put a damper on her spirit.

Filmed during quarantine, the chefs virtually instruct her on how to make dishes ranging from Korean breakfast tacos and seafood tostada to cheese soufflé and spicy miso ramen. There are 10 episodes each featuring a different chef including Italian-Dominican chef Angelo Sosa, Afro-Korean chef Nyesha J Arrington and Korean-American chef Roy Choi who is famous for his gourmet taco truck, Kogi. Each episode also highlights a different food-related charity.

“Having some of the best chefs open up their kitchens to me was a humbling and fun experience,” Gomez said in a statement. “I definitely discovered I have a lot more to learn. I’m also really happy that we were able to highlight and raise money for some incredible charitable organizations.”

A show about cooking during quarantine that doesn’t take itself too seriously? We’re in.
