Selena Gomez and Francia Raísa used Thursday night’s Billboard Women in Music ceremony to celebrate female friendship. At an event meant to elevate women, Gomez couldn’t hold back tears as she centered her friendship with Raísa in her speech for the evening’s top award. “To be honest, I think Francia should be getting this award because she saved my life,” she said about her best friend, who donated a kidney to her earlier this year.

“Honestly, I couldn’t be more grateful for the position I’ve been given in my career from 7 to 14 to now,” she continued. “I want people to know that I respect the platform that I have so deeply because I knew that I wanted to be a part of something great and I wanted people to feel great because I love people.”

Francia, who we’ve already dubbed the world’s best BFF, also had kind words to say about SG. “Our Latina sisterhood has connected us professionally and personally,” she said. “She is my biggest champion and my best cheerleader, and I hers. We are so close that we literally are the same kidney type.”

Their friendship spans 14 years, but many didn’t learn about their bond until mid-September when Gomez revealed that Francia saved her life.
