Coffee shop dance parties are getting popular. Cafetón recently left its mark in Chicago, giving a glimpse of the new go-to day parties fueled by caffeine. Is this our community’s next go-to perreo?
Cafetón is a reggaeton and coffee dance party founded by Jordan Williams, Miriam Paz, and William Martinez. Williams’ company Press & Play linked up with Paz and Martinez’s marketing firm they work for called V5 Group, to create the unique experience. If their names ring a bell, it may be because V5 Group also works with Sueños Music Festival in the Windy City.
This year, Cafetón’s co-founders partnered up to create “Road To Sueños” events leading up to the annual festival, which is later this month (May 24 to 25). Last weekend (May 10), the DJ set featured a surprise appearance by Young Miko, who was part of last year’s lineup.
However, as the event gets bigger, it’s garnering more attention. And as we know, with more attention comes more opinions. Some TikTok users are sharing their POVs about the event’s growth. What started as coffee-only in smaller venues has catapulted into larger venues with more than a four-thousand-person capacity, with alcohol options, dividing the city’s community. Case in point: Some people want coffee-only parties, as Cafetón originally advertised, while others are OK with alcohol being involved.

But it’s also worth noting that it seems like the event’s core remains the same: creating spaces for their community. And isn’t that what it’s all about? While we don’t know what the co-founders will decide in the future, during their biggest event to date (April 27), the reggaeton party featured four local Latine-owned coffee businesses, per Eater.
Next up, Cafetón will be taking over Miami’s Wynwood Marketplace on June 1. We’ll keep an eye on how the event grows nationwide!
