Ugly Primo is celebrating Juan Gabriel’s birthday (Jan. 7) with a limited-edition t-shirt. For the next 24 hours, fans can buy different variation shirts featuring the Mexican legend’s image.

JuanGa would’ve celebrated his 71st birthday yesterday. The world lost him in 2016 when he reportedly died of a heart attack on Aug. 28. Gabriel was an accomplished songwriter and musician. He wrote hits like Spanish singer Rocío Dúrcal’s “Costumbres” and José José’s “Lo Pasado, Pasado.” He also recorded his own compositions such as classics like “Así Fue” and “Hasta Que Te Conocí.”

UglyPrimo is paying tribute to Gabriel’s birthday with a special flash sale. The site is selling the JuanGa shirt in long sleeve, short sleeve, and crop top variations. Gabriel’s name is adorned in roses, and next to a black-and-white photo of the singer is the words of his classic “Abrázame Muy Fuerte.” Very fitting for a tee.

By the time you read this, the shirt is going to be available for less than 24 hours, so JuanGa fans better get a move-on now.

Gabriel’s legacy continues to live through the next generation of Latine artists. Back in 2019, Mexican singer Georgel covered JuanGa’s campy classic “El Noa Noa” with Colombian artist Esteman. The song became even more queer when electrocumbia king Raymix jumped on the remix. Raymix wasn’t out at the time, but he later came out as gay last June during Pride month.

Gabriel never put a label on his sexuality, but as one of Latin music’s most flamboyant musicians, he’s considered a queer icon. ¡Que viva El Divo de Juárez!
