After scoring two big hits this year, Xavi continues to release new music. Last night (Jan. 8), the rising Mexican-American star unveiled a heartbreaking music video for his song “Sin Pagar Renta.”

This release comes as Xavi makes history on Spotify in 2024. His song “La Diabla” reached No. 1 on the Top 50 global chart, making him the first Mexican artist to achieve this without any featured artists. “La Diabla” also marks the fourth time a música mexicana song has reached No. 1 on Spotify. The three previous songs were all collaborations: “Ella Baila Sola” by Eslabon Armado and Peso Pluma, “Un 100xto” by Grupo Frontera with Bad Bunny, and a music session by Peso Pluma with Bizarrap. Another of Xavi’s hits, “La Víctima,” is currently at No. 9 on the chart.

In the poignant ballad “Sin Pagar Renta,” Xavi sings about being haunted by memories of his time with an ex. As the song’s title suggests, thoughts of her continue to live in his head rent-free. In the music video, Xavi goes as far as using a machine to delete his memories of her. Before taking that step, he relives them one last time through projections.

Last month, Xavi secured the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Latin Songwriters chart, thanks to the viral success of “La Víctima” on TikTok. On the Hot Latin Songs chart, he spends a second week at the summit with “La Diabla.” “La Víctima” also sits at No. 5 for a second straight week. Xavi achieved his first top 40 hit on the all-genre Hot 100 chart, with “La Diabla” climbing to No. 34 this week.
