Puerto Rican reggaeton icon Yandel is known both for his time in the duo Wisin y Yandel as well as his solo career. And in the last year or so he’s continued to make his mark in the footwear business.
Last December, he expanded his brand by branching out into footwear with Ewing Athletics. The following month, the limited edition Ewing x Yandel Rogue sneaker was released. For those fans of his sneaker style, he has a second collaboration on the way with Ewing Athletics. And they celebrate his love for Puerto Rico.
“I’m counting down the days to present this new model to sneaker lovers around the world,” Yandel shared in a statement. “I’m very proud of our first edition, and now we can add this incredible new style to our exclusive collection in honor of the city that I hold close to my heart with great pride, a city that has witnessed my growth as a person and as an artist.”
Yandel is referring to New York City where he will soon unveil the Ewing x Yandel SL33 “Cayey” sneaker. The low-top shoe with beige leather and mesh, brown suede, and green leather will be available for purchase on Sept. 6 at 10 a.m. EST on ewingathletics.com and yandel.com. That same day, Yandel and Ewing Athletics’ Patrick Ewing will host an in-store event at Stadium Goods in New York City. The name “Cayey” is a reference to his hometown in Puerto Rico, which is famous for its twin peaks.
The collaborative sneakers are also packaged in a special box with an English and Spanish comic printed on the inside, continuing the story introduced with their first sneaker collaboration. Like their previous model, a flag of Puerto Rico is printed all over the wrapping paper, and each pair comes with a custom Ewing x Yandel straw bag.
“I’m excited about this new low-top model as it adds a new element to the brand,” Ewing added in a statement. “The SL33 is a perfect combination of old and new, and it streamlines our collection. Yandel has been a great collaborator, and it’s been great working with him over the last two years, so it was only natural for him to debut the SL33.”
