Gap returns with another music-centered ad, this time with GRAMMY nominated artist, Young Miko. The Puerto Rican artist is the voice behind the brand’s latest campaign, Sweats Like This, which features the debut of an exclusive music video to her song “WASSUP,” reimagined for the collaboration.
Remezcla spoke with Young Miko about the new campaign and her personal connection to all aspects of the music video process, from the clothing, the video direction, down to the legacy of Gap.
In the new campaign, Young Miko breaks out in a full monochromatic fit of Heavyweight and Extra Heavyweight GapSweats, including a Gap arched logo hoodie and a custom cropped style. The dancers mirror Young Miko’s color drench look, while sporting a wide range of fleece wide-legged joggers, shorts, and hoodies that showcase the collection’s versatility and various styling opportunities.
The opportunity to perform in a Gap campaign was a full circle moment for Young Miko, who has a personal connection with the brand. She tells Remezcla, “I had a lot of Gap pieces that I used to wear, and it made me feel like I could connect with a little piece of my childhood. I used to see these campaigns when I was little and they always seemed super fun and colorful. It felt like a perfect world where I could definitely exist.”
The full-length music video is directed by Bethany Vargas, the director behind the viral KATSEYE Gap commercial. Young Miko was familiar with Vargas’ work. She met the director a year and a half ago before the launch of the KATSEYE commercial, “She already had a familiar face to me, and the fact that she’s also Latina and was directing this whole campaign felt really beautiful and special,” says Young Miko.
Gap has a history of partnering with artists that are shaping culture. In September 2025, Gap launched its most successful campaign of all time, enlisting pop group, KATSEYE, to deliver the fashion retailer’s message.
When referencing the viral KATSEYE video, Young Miko reiterates her pride in starring in Gap’s latest ad, stating “Gap did a super iconic and refreshing campaign with a group that’s doing incredibly well right now. I worked with the girls, and they’re all lovely, super talented, and it made me so happy to see them there. I would have already said yes to the campaign even without KATSEYE, but KATSEYE’s involvement was definitely cool to see.”
The Sweats Like This campaign includes fresh– and sometimes complex choreography, including a break-dance moment that allows the 26 dancers to freely dance and move. Luckily for Young Miko, she felt right at home with the choreography and music direction, stating “I don’t think I made any changes because I loved everything. They had thought through every detail of the campaign before I even arrived. Once I got there it was really easy to just flow with everything.”
So while Young Miko had the opportunity to make changes and reinvent the direction, she was confident with the directions and support given “the space was open for me to collaborate however I wanted, but from the moment I arrived I liked everything, so I never felt the need to ask for changes, thank God.”
Young Miko has inspired audiences worldwide with her Latin-trap music, her style, and her passion for her home, Puerto Rico. And she feels pride in managing to bring her home to something as worldwide as Gap.
“Puerto Rico influences everything I do — the way I talk, express myself, dress, live, and see the world. It’s my home and the culture that shaped who I am today,” says Young Miko, adding “This music video was an amazing experience, and working with Gap felt natural because they gave me the space to express myself and my culture authentically. It’s such a beautiful way to keep showing love to a song the fans are really connected with.”
