Arré! Telemundo’s ‘El Señor De Los Cielos’ is back for its ninth season.

Ahead of the show’s highly-anticipated return, Telemundo invited Remezcla to Mexico City for the premiere event where we got an advanced screening of what fans are going to see unfold this season. The main cast which includes, Rafael Amaya, Carmen Aub, Ivan Arana, and Isabella Castillo, all walked the red carpet in fierce galore. Some of the cast members exclusively talked to Remezcla about how the show is also hitting the milestone of being on-air for a decade.

“Wow! 10 years! This show is basically pop culture,” said Rafael Amaya, who plays the main character, Aurelio Casillas. “I am very happy with everything that has happened with this series. The cast is incredible. I enjoy giving the fans an original product of quality each time.” The show quickly became a huge pop culture sensation that even legendary Mexican group Los Tucanes de Tijuana made a song for the show called “Hierba Mala Nunca Muere”

Mexican actress Carmen Aub, who has played the role of Rutila Casillas since 2013, expressed her gratitude for the continued work saying, “After nine seasons, I don’t know why I still get nervous. I’m very passionate about this character, and I hope our audience is just as enthusiastic as I am.”

To give readers perspective, this show is Telemundo’s longest-running series, and it dominates primetime television as the number one program in its timeslot regardless of language in New York, Miami, Chicago, San Francisco, Phoenix, and Philadelphia.

In true telenovela style, actor Roberto Valdez spoke to Remezcla about how he was surprised his character JP was brought back on the show after he was presumed dead. “In season 5, there was a big shoot-out scene where the car my character was in was covered in bullets, and my character died. Or so we thought. To my surprise, I got the call that my character was not dead. I am very much alive, and here we are, ready for another season.”

The cast is full of new talents this season, such as Jason Romo, who is thrilled to be joining the show as Diego Bustamante, “I hope that Diego becomes one of Mexico’s most famous drug lords. I’m really excited for the fans to see how this new character develops this season and how he will be mixing between being seen as a good guy or the bad guy.”

Mexican actor Arturo Peniche, who is known for his 90’s telenovelas, will have a special appearance in the series this season. He told Remezcla, “After so many decades in this business, I still get nervous on set. It’s like my inner child can’t wait to get on set and get started. It doesn’t get old, and I’m happy to still be doing what I love.” According to IMDb, he’s set to play Flavio San Román.

Though the show continues to introduce many drug lords, Aurelio Casillas continues to dominate as the powerful man who stops at nothing to protect his name. So if you’re a new fan of the show and want to binge-watch the series, you can watch exclusively on the Telemundo app or stream on Peacock

New episodes air Monday through Friday at 10 pm only on Telemundo.
