For the second season in a row, the only Love is Blind wedding involved a Latina. Like in Season 5 with Lydia and Milton, Season 6 saw Amy and Johnny not just make it to the altar, but say yes to each other. At the Love is Blind reunion, the couple revealed they are still together and seemingly stronger than ever.

Remezcla had a chance to catch up with Love is Blind’s Amy to discuss her Puerto Rican identity, the birth control storyline that was at the center of her time on the show, and her favorite moment from the Love is Blind journey we didn’t get to see.

Identity-wise, Amy was very clear. “I’m Puerto Rican.” It just so happens that her maternal grandparents were from Spain. “It’s not something I fully identified with growing up because I just didn’t really connect with it until I went to Spain for the first time a couple of years ago. And so truly, I was just always like, soy Boricua. I was born there. My parents were born there. That’s the culture I really connected more with growing up. And it’s something that I’m so proud of. Us Latinos are so proud of our roots.”

On top of the identity question, the other big storyline for Amy and her husband Johnny, was birth control. The two had multiple conversations about it, and if their marriage was ever in any doubt, it all seemed to depend on what compromise the two could reach. The show never gives details about what exactly the two agree on – though spoiler alert, Amy’s Instagram does! – the two make it down the altar and say yes to each other without any major drama.

Amy, who now finds herself with a platform where she can help educate about these issues, just wants women to “feel empowered about their decisions.” Well, that and she wants to make clear that Johnny never pressured her. “Yeah, he was ignorant in the subject, but he was willing to learn and he was willing to hear me out.” And he “really was just the most understanding person. That’s why we’re still together because he never really pressured me or forced me to do anything.”

For Amy, there’s no doubt that love is indeed blind. The experiment works. But as she looks back at her time with Johnny, she admitted that “a lot of my favorite moments weren’t even on camera.”

One particular moment that isn’t and that she almost wishes could have been captured for posterity happened the night of their last big date before the wedding. “We were going to sleep and we were just cuddling. And I was feeling this euphoric sense of so much love and gratitude that I was about to start getting emotional. But I didn’t want to freak him out. And then I look up and then he’s also tearing up because he’s feeling the same way,” she told us.

“And at that moment, I was just like, yeah, this is it. We are soulmates. We finally found each other and we can make it official. And so that was my favorite moment that if there was a way that it could be shown without it being awkward, I feel like that would have been so beautiful.”

Love is Blind Season 6 is available to stream on Netflix.
