It’s often hard not to be cynical while watching Love Is Blind. Sure, there are some successes, but the show is mostly relationship drama. That’s reality TV for you. And at this point, that’s pretty much why people tune in. To see people who probably should never be in relationships with each other attempt to make things work, and mostly fail. And then there’s Vic and Christine.
The couple, who are the only of the two couples who got married in Love Is Blind Season 10 to still be together after the reunion, and whose biggest issues in the relationship are apparently that Vic plays too much Angry Birds and Christine owns a lot of socks, are still going strong. Very strong. In fact, they’ve been a breath of fresh air and even an inspiration to those watching from home. Love might not be blind all the time, but every once in a while, it is.
Remezcla sat down with Christine and Vic to talk about the experience, Vic’s Caribbean roots, and what they hope people take away from their story.
And we started strong. Vic, whose family is from Grenada and who taught Christine some dance moves during a family gathering according to the Season 10 reunion, shared his favorite Caribbean dishes. “Oh man, what a question,” he laughed. “Favorite Caribbean dish. Man, this is gonna create some chaos. This is gonna create some chaos. If I have to throw something out there, I’m gonna just throw out a roti. Give me some roti with maybe some curry goat or curry chicken in it. And I think that’s the way to go.”
“I would say your mom’s fish cakes,” Christine threw out.
Vic still has some dishes on the list of things he’d want his wife to try, too. “Honestly, a lot of, I would say, the confections I would want you to try,” he told her. “So, like, guava, maybe guinep, like a bunch of just kind of fruits and sweets in the islands that you have to be there to have.”
Their time on Love is Blind was also very, very calm.
In fact, they were one of the few couples we’ve ever seen on this show with no issues. The one we were sure was going to end up together. Christine reflected on whether the show focuses too much on the drama, saying, “I don’t know if it focuses too much on the drama because I mean, before the show, I was a consumer, right? And naturally, we kind of secretly want the drama, but I can get where we need a sense of calm and to remember the purpose of the show, too.”
But now, no matter what, the spotlight is on them. And that requires some adjustments. “We showed up to this experiment very vulnerable and knowing everything would be out there,” Vic shared. “So, once it’s out there, it’s out there, right? We can’t take it back. And I think part of what we’re doing is we’re gonna be present in the moment. We’re also just praying on all the decisions and things happening around this.” And then, they can go home together and recharge.
And if there’s one thing they would like people to get from their story, especially as they search for their own love, it’s this: “Go beyond the surface,” Vic told us. “And I think when it comes to healthy relationships, and this includes friendships and things like that, go below the surface in getting to know each other, showing up for one another, being selfless with each other. And it’ll go a long way in terms of just helping us as individuals, but then feeding back into society as a whole. So go below the surface in all of those relationships that are around you. Appreciate the people that are around you.”
It’s a very good lesson to learn. Who said this show was only about drama?
