Snow Tha Product is a resilient artist ready to celebrate her wins. The Mexican-American artist is not only a successful independent rapper and a popular podcaster, but she’s doing it on her own terms. And now, she’s finally celebrating her wins with a new tour. Amid her “Good Nights and Bad Mornings Tour,” Remezcla spoke with the rapper about learning to trust her vision, the challenges she faces as a queer artist, and who she wants to collaborate with next.

Born Claudia Alexandra Madriz Meza, Snow went from being signed to a label to independent in 2021. For her, transitioning to being an independent artist improved her mental health. When she was with the major label, she had to trust the company with everything versus trusting her own voice. “Once I became independent and I had nobody to tell me I’m wrong, I just started having to trust myself,” she says. “I think that really healed my mental health a little bit – it’s not all the way there.” She also mentions that she now sees her money and can help her family with it, whether it’s through employing them or welcoming them to her home ranch, which is her end goal “as a provider at heart.”

Trusting her vision has come a long way. Not only financially, but also in healing herself. Now in her new “Good Nights and Bad Mornings Tour,” Snow Tha Product is taking a moment to celebrate her wins and highlighting nostalgic moments for her. “It’s celebrating the evolution and the fact that I can perform songs from 10 years ago, and they’re going to feel new because maybe they were just slept on… It’s my journey of healing and reminding myself, ‘B*tch, you were right, you made good sh*t. Maybe the industry slept on you,’” she says. “Sometimes, as Latinas, we don’t hear that enough. I hope that [my show] inspires a lot of women across the country to be like, ‘Yo, celebrate yourself more. Celebrate those wins.’”

Imposter syndrome isn’t the only obstacle that Snow has faced in her music career. Another challenge she brings up as a member of the LGBTQ+ community is queerbaiting, which she says isn’t talked about in the Latine music industry. “In the Spanish world, two girls make out–,” Snow says before stopping mid-sentence. “As a matter of fact, now people are finally cringing at [queerbaiting]. But it’s now affecting the queer community because whenever girls kiss on stage or in a music video, [people are] like, ‘Oh, she thinks she’s Madonna; Wow, que puercas.’ It f*cks us up as queer people because that’s really our life. And now they just made it corny, and now if I really want to kiss a woman because that’s a love story, they’re going to think I’m trying to be just like the rest of these straight b*tches that want to queerbait.”

[The tour is] my journey of healing and reminding myself, ‘B*tch, you were right, you made good sh*t. Maybe the industry slept on you.’ Sometimes, as Latinas, we don’t hear that enough.

But the setbacks have not stopped the upward trajectory of Snow Tha Product’s musical journey. One thing that allows the rapper to commemorate over a decade of music in her new tour is her knack for knowing what’s next before others. For example, Snow’s music has always been ahead of the curve, having collaborated with corrido tumbado leader Natanael Cano back in 2020 and securing a BZRP Session with Argentinean producer Bizarrap in 2021 before mainstream artists hopped on. Now, she’s open and looks forward to potentially collaborating with reggaeton mexa’s rising stars like Bellakath and Yeri Mua

“I’m glad that there’s a wave for [Mexican reggaeton] and that there’s unity and collaborations,” Snow shares when asked about the possibility of collaborating with reggaeton mexa’s newcomers. “Yeah, [I would collaborate] with Yeri or Bellakath. I know that I’ve been talking about Bellakath about collabing because we have a festival coming up.”

She continues: “I’m glad anytime Mexicans are doing good. I’m definitely not one of those people that wants to be the only Mexican. You know how sometimes you got people that kind of hate on each other because they want to be the token in the room? To me, I’m like, ‘Bro, entre más, mejor.’ We need support and we need a wave and we need to come up.”

Snow Tha Product’s “Good Nights and Bad Mornings Tour” continues at the Riverside Municipal Auditorium in Riverside, CA, on Aug. 10.
