If starring as the titular wife-to-be in the Latine remake of Father of the Bride earlier this summer didn’t make Adria Arjona a household name, that’s sure to change when she makes her debut next month on the Disney+ series Andor, a prequel to the 2016 film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

“Can’t wait for you all to see this show,” Arjona posted on Instagram alongside the trailer. “So excited and proud to be a part of this show.”

In the series, Arjona plays Bix Caleen, a character who we’ll only say is an ally to Diego Luna’s title character Cassian Andor. During a recent interview with Remezcla, Luna said Arjona was committed to her role and the process. “Adria is fantastic, and I was really pleased to be working with her,” Luna said. “It was important to work with someone like her because she understands what teamwork means.”

Along with Andor and Father of the Bride, Arjona, who is of Puerto Rican and Guatemalan descent, has starred in a handful of film and TV projects since she started her career in 2014. Some of her first TV work came on Person of Interest, Narcos, and True Detective episodes.

Her longest TV gig was 10 episodes on the Wizard of Oz-inspired series Emerald City where she played the main character, Dorothy Gale.

Some of Arjona’s film credits include the 2018 sci-fi sequel Pacific Rim: Uprising, the 2019 action-adventure film Triple Frontier alongside Oscar Isaac and Pedro Pascal, and the 2021 action-thriller Sweet Girl alongside Isabela Merced.

As for Andor, Arjona told Slash Film that if there are any Star Wars newbies who want to watch the show but have never seen any other Star Wars movie or TV series, they really don’t have to go back and binge the entire franchise.

“I think you can watch, and you can sort of fall in love with Star Wars and maybe it brings in even people that have never watched Star Wars before because they don’t want to do the homework,” she said. “I think that’s pretty cool.”
