The world is currently gripped in World Cup fever but that’s no reason to miss out on your favorite television shows, especially USA Network’s Queen of the South which premieres season three on June 21. In conjunction with the network, and in anticipation of the World Cup airing on Telemundo this summer, a tw0-minute play-by-play of Queen of the South’s previous two seasons was released with acclaimed Argentinian announcer Andrés Cantor giving us all the info.
Cantor lays out everything fans would need to know about the popular USA series, with videos in both English and Spanish. With his penchant for rapid-fire dialogue he lays out the life of Teresa Mendoza (Alice Braga), a woman drawn into the world of Mexican drug cartels after her boyfriend is killed. The last two seasons have seen all manner of drama, from rivalries between Braga’s Teresa and reigning drug queen Carmen Vargas (Veronica Falcón) to murder and romance. Cantor makes sure to inject some soccer terms into things – saying that Teresa is “on the field” and other characters are sidelined. Cantor wraps the whole thing up with his legendary exclamation of “Goooooooool” at the conclusion of the video, setting up Teresa as the new leader of the cartels and the audience is left to wonder what happens next.

The video is a great way to promote Cantor’s gig on Telemundo this summer and is some creative cross-promotion from USA. Cantor’s been announcing World Cup games on TV and radio since 1990 and is an institution around this time. It’s videos like this that prove Cantor should just be narrating everything. Someone give him a gig recapping all sorts of movies and television shows.
