On Monday (August 8), Marvel fans got a first look at actor Anthony Ramos (In the Heights) in costume for the upcoming Marvel series Ironheart.

Ironheart follows Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne), an engineering student and inventor who develops an armored suit comparable to the Iron Man ones made by Tony Stark. Based on the leaked photos on social media alone, it looks like Ramos will be playing the Marvel supervillain known as The Hood.

In the photos, Ramos is featured sporting a dark red hooded cloak, gray suit jacket, and a black shirt, pants, and boots. He is carrying and pointing a gun in his right hand. In another photo of Ramos out of costume, an intricate tattoo can be seen on the left side of his neck.

The Hood is fairly new to the Marvel franchise. The character was introduced to comic book fans in 2002 as Parker Robbins, a petty criminal who gains superpowers when he defeats a demon. The hooded cloak and boots he steals from the demon give him the ability to become invisible and to levitate.

During the last 20 years in print, The Hood has jumped back and forth from being portrayed as a supervillain and an anti-hero. It is yet unknown where his allegiances lie in Ironheart, but at one point in the comics, The Hood leads his own crime syndicate in New York City.

Reactions on Twitter to the first photos of Anthony Ramos as The Hood were mixed at best, but that’s usually what you get this early in the game with most Marvel fans.

Ironheart is scheduled to premiere in late 2023 on Disney+.
