Oscar-winner Ariana DeBose (West Side Story) has plenty of projects on her plate, including an upcoming sci-fi thriller and a Marvel movie, but the Afro-Latine actress doesn’t have any reason to slow down now that her stock is so high.

On Wednesday (April 13), Deadline revealed that DeBose would take the lead role in the film Two and Only, which is being written by Latine and LGBTQ writer Jen Rivas-DeLoose (Selena: The Series). DeBose will also serve as an executive producer on the project.

Although not much else is known about the film or DeBose’s role, Deadline reports that it is being described as “My Best Friend’s Wedding with a bisexual Latinx POV.” Based on her recent tweet, the genre seems like one DeBose can certainly get behind.

“Let’s try a rom com!” DeBose tweeted. “So excited to take on a new challenge and learn a thing or two about producing. Thrilled to be a part of this incredible team including Jen Rivas-DeLoose, Screen Gems’ Scott Strauss and [K. Giselle Johnson] and Sad Unicorn’s Randall Einhorn and Jeremy Stern!”

Near three weeks ago, DeBose became the first openly queer woman of color to win an Academy Award for her role as Anita in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story. “To anybody who’s ever questioned your identity…or if you find yourself living in the gray spaces, I promise you this: there is indeed a place for us,” she said during her acceptance speech.

Coming up next for Ariana DeBose is the action film Argylle alongside Henry Cavill, Bryan Cranston, and Samuel L. Jackson, and the intergalactic thriller I.S.S. starring Chris Messina.
