Aubrey Plaza is making her Saturday Night Live debut in a couple of weeks. The White Lotus star will host the long-running sketch comedy series on January 21 – the first show of 2023. Joining Plaza as the musical guest is Sam Smith.

On social media, Plaza posted a photo of her lawyer character Harper Spiller from the HBO series The White Lotus and included the date “1.21.23.” Her caption reads: “Slay mama slay!! Wepa!”

Before hitting it big in Hollywood, Plaza interned for the design department at Saturday Night Live in 2005. “When you’re an intern, you’re not really supposed to make your presence known,” Plaza told Too Fab in 2020. “No one says that, but it’s kind of an unspoken thing, and I definitely was lurking in the shadows.”

Last year, SNL asked its Twitter followers who they would like to see host the show in the future. Remezcla suggested a handful of Latine talent based on their upcoming projects and included Plaza to host this past fall since the second season of The White Lotus premiered in October. We say, “Better late than never!”

While Plaza won’t have any new projects to plug when she hosts the show, we’re sure her appearance will attract more people to the HBO series and to her 2022 film Emily the Criminal, which is currently streaming on Netflix.

Plaza is the first Latine host of the 48th season and the first Latine host since Selena Gomez took center stage in May 2022 during the 47th season. Other Latines who hosted last season were Oscar Isaac (Moon Knight) and Ariana DeBose (West Side Story).

Plaza’s fans were beyond excited when the announcement was made on Thursday (January 5).

Since Aubrey Plaza is such a lover of witches, here’s to hoping someone writes her a sketch where she can hover over a bubbling cauldron.
