UPDATE: The Flash filmmaker Andy Muschietti has officially been tapped to direct a new Batman film, Batman: The Brave and the Bold. The film is based on the comic series by Grant Morrison in which Bruce Wayne’s biological son Damian takes on the role of Batman’s sidekick, Robin. “Andy’s affinity and passion for these characters and this world just resonates through every frame,” said DC executives James Gunn and Peter Safran. “So, when it came time to find a director for The Brave and the Bold, there was really only one choice. Luckily, Andy said yes.” According to Variety, the film will not be connected to The Batman, which stars Robert Pattinson as the title superhero.

Andy Muschietti’s The Flash hasn’t hit theaters yet, but the Argentine filmmaker is already rumored to have another potential DC blockbuster on his plate: Batman.

According to rumors, which have yet to be confirmed by Warner Bros. but have been blowing up on social media and outlets, Muschietti is returning to DC to reboot the Batman franchise with the film, The Brave and the Bold, which features Batman’s son, Damian Wayne, as Batman’s new sidekick, Robin.

James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, announced The Brave and the Bold earlier this year as part of DCs upcoming projects. “[Damian] was raised as a little murderer and assassin,” Gunn said. “He’s a little son of a bitch. He’s my favorite Robin, based on the Grant Morrison comic books run, which is one of my favorite Batman runs, and we are putting that all together right now.”

The Brave and the Bold started as a comic book series published by DC Comics from 1955 to 1983. It returned as an anthology title in 2007 and 2023. The comic book was also adapted into a notable animated TV series focused on Batman in 2008 that ran for 65 episodes.

In The Flash, Muschietti gets to work with two versions of Batman/Bruce Wayne – one played by Ben Affleck, who shows up to give Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) advice, and the other played by Michael Keaton, who donned the Batsuit in two movies in the 90s – Batman and Batman Returns. Keaton’s Batman is a major part of the action-packed scenes in the second half of The Flash.

Will The Brave and the Bold introduce us to more of Bruce Wayne’s Batfamily? We wouldn’t mind if a couple of Bat Tios or Tias were thrown into the mix.

The Flash hits theaters nationwide on June 16, 2023.
