We have some possibly fetch news. Singer-songwriter Belinda and singer-actress Danna Paola are apparently interested in starring in a remake of the 2004 teen comedy Mean Girls.
According to Mexican theater producer Alejandro Gou, the duo has told him that they would accept roles in the remake if he ended up purchasing the rights to the movie. It’s not clear if Gou wants to buy the rights to remake the film or the stage musical, which opened on Broadway in 2018.
“I’m bothering and bothering them to give me the rights because they were supposedly going to release the film, but I will continue to insist because as soon as they give [the rights] to me, I have Danna’s yes and Belinda’s yes,” Gou said in Spanish.
Mean Girls is based in part on the 2002 nonfiction self-help book Queen Bees and Wannabes. The comedy stars Lindsay Lohan as Cady Heron, a 16-year-old who attends public school for the first time and is quickly recruited by a group of popular girls known as The Plastics to join their clique.
Gou said there is “nothing concrete” to the news other than that he hopes to purchase the rights and cast Belinda and Paola in two of the roles. He has worked with Paola before on the musical Hoy no me puedo levantar.
“Danna and I are very good friends,” Gou said. “She is right now, thank God, at the top of her career. If something were to happen with her and Belinda, I’d want to do Mean Girls.”
In the past, Belinda has been seen in movies like Cheetah Girls 2 and on telenovelas like Camaleones. She was also the voice of the lead character in the Spanish-language version of the animated films Trolls and Trolls World Tour.
Paola has credits in several telenovelas like La Doña and Elite. She has also lent her voice to the main characters in the Spanish dubs of animated films like Tangled and Raya and the Last Dragon.
