Blue Beetle, DC Comics’ first live-action Latino superhero, will make his debut at theaters later this summer, but fans of the character can start adding to their toy collection now. The new Funko Pop! figures are now available for pre-order via Entertainment Earth and Amazon.
The release of the Funko Pop! toys includes Funko SODAs, which are part of a limited-edition collection of vinyl figures that are designed in a different style than the traditional Pop! collectables. The Funko SODAs come in packaging that looks like a soda can.
The new items available to order now are the Blue Beetle Funko Pop! (with Chase Variant); Jamie Reyes Funko Pop!; Conrad Carapax Funko Pop!; Blue Beetle Funko SODA; Blue Beetle Pocket Pop Keychain; and Blue Beetle Funko Pop! (with weapon).
In the upcoming film, our hero Jamie Reyes will be played by Xolo Maridueña (Cobra Kai) and Conrad Carapax, who is a villain in the movie, will be played by Raoul Trujillo (Mayans M.C.).
Directed by Ángel Manuel Soto (Charm City Kings), the movie follows recent college grad Jaime Reyes who stumbles upon an ancient relic of alien biotechnology. Known as the Scarab, the artifact “chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host” and provides him with a suit of armor “capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers.”
“To come through this journey together is something we have never seen before in superhero movies,” Maridueña said. “That really is the beating heart of [Blue Beetle]. It can’t happen without the family.”
Blue Beetle premieres nationwide at theaters on August 18, 2023.
