Colman Domingo made history bright and early Tuesday morning (January 23) when nominations for the 2024 Academy Awards were announced.

Domingo was the lone actor from our communities to get an Oscar nomination in the Best Actor category. He got the nod for his role as civil rights activist Bayard Rustin in the biopic Rustin. This was Domingoโ€™s first Oscar nomination of his career. He becomes the first-ever Afro-Latino and first gay Latino to be nominated in the category.

Domingo has some heavy competition ahead of him if he wants to bring the gold home on Oscar night. The other nominees in his category are: Bradley Cooper (Maestro), Paul Giamatti (The Holdovers), Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer), and Jeffrey Wright (American Fiction).

For his role in Rustin, Colman Domingo had already earned numerous accolades, including nominations for a Golden Globe award, BAFTA, Critics Choice award, BAFTA, and Screen Actors Guild award.

The 2024 Academy Awards are on March 10, 2024 on ABC at 7 p.m. ET.

Rustin is available to watch on Netflix.
