Nominations for the 80th Annual Golden Globes were announced Monday morning (December 12) and a handful of Latine talent, including Diego Luna and Jenna Ortega, made the cut for their performances in film and TV.

On the TV side, Diego Luna received a nomination for Best Actor in a TV Series – Drama for his lead role in Andor. Fun fact: With his nomination, Luna becomes the first actor to be nominated for a Golden Globe for a Star Wars TV series, and the second Star Wars actor since 1978 to be nominated (Alec Guinness was the first for Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope).

Also, Jenna Ortega landed a nomination for Best Actress in a TV Series – Musical or Comedy for her lead role in Wednesday; Selena Gomez got one in the same category for her contribution to Only Murders in the Building; and Aubrey Plaza scored a Supporting Actress nomination for her role in The White Lotus.

On the film side, Ana de Armas landed the second Globe nomination of her career, this time a nomination for Best Actress – Drama for her portrayal of screen icon Marilyn Monroe in the polarizing Netflix film Blonde. De Armas’ first nomination came in 2020 for her role in the whodunit Knives Out.

Anya Taylor-Joy picked up her third Globe nomination for her role in the entertaining culinary thriller, The Menu. In the film, she plays a guest invited to a celebrity chef’s restaurant where every course he serves comes with something sinister. Taylor-Joy won a Golden Globe in 2021 for her role on the Netflix series The Queen’s Gambit and was nominated that same year for her performance in the film Emma.

Diego Calva landed his first Globe nomination for Best Actor – Musical or Comedy category for his role in the film Babylon where he plays an immigrant with aspirations to break into Hollywood.

Guillermo del Toro landed a pair of Globe nominations – one for Best Animated Film for his rendition of Pinocchio and another for co-writing the song “Ciao Papa” for the film. Wrapping up the film categories, Amazon Prime’s Argentina, 1985 earned a nomination for Best Film – Non-English Language.

The 80th Annual Golden Globes take place January 10, 2023, at 8 p.m. EST on NBC.
