Ghostface is back for the sixth installment of the Scream horror movie franchise. The first teaser trailer for the next blood-soaked sequel debuted Wednesday morning (December 14) and features Jenna Ortega (Wednesday) and Melissa Barrera (In the Heights) reprising their roles from the last movie, which premiered earlier this year.

In Scream 6, the survivors of Ghostface’s latest massacre decide to leave Woodsboro behind and start a new life in New York City. As viewers can see from the preview, however, a move from the West Coast to the East Coast isn’t going to be enough to stop a movie villain from showing up again.

The trailer begins in the New York City subway where sisters Sam (Barrera) and Tara (Ortega) Carpenter are riding inside a subway car on what looks to be Halloween night. While some passengers are wearing scary werewolf and zombie masks, there’s also a handful of people wearing Ghostface masks, which, of course, causes Sam and Tara’s blood pressure to rise. “Guys?” Sam says nervously as one of the Ghostface’s stares at her from the end of the car they’re in.

While we don’t know much more about the storyline, a couple more characters listed on IMDb show up in the trailer. First, Puerto Rican actor Josh Segarra (She-Hulk: Attorney at Law), who plays David, is standing next to Sam, although we’re not sure at this point if he’s a friend or a stranger. Is he one of the “guys”?

Also, Jasmin Savoy Brown (Scream) reprises her role as Mindy from the last movie. She’s in the subway car, too, but when the lights go out and then turn back on, the trailer doesn’t make it seem like she will be with us for the long haul since Ghostface ends up in her face and a slashing sound is heard.

Here’s hoping Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera’s characters can make it out of this one.

Scream 6 premieres in theaters on March 10, 2023.
