Eiza González (Ambulance) is joining forces with fellow Mexican actors Gael García Bernal (Werewolf by Night) and Diego Luna (Andor) for the Hulu limited series La Máquina.

The Spanish-language show, which was first announced this past summer, follows an aging boxer named Esteban (Bernal) who decides to get back into the ring once more after his manager Andy (Luna) gets him a shot at the title.

González has been cast as Irasema, an aspiring sports journalist, who considers boxing more of an “art form.” Irasema is also Esteban’s ex-wife and the mother of their two children. She has known Esteban and Andy since they were teenagers.

Marco Ramirez (Daredevil) will serve as executive producer and showrunner, while Gabriel Ripstein (600 Miles) will direct the series.

“We are proud to partner again with Searchlight Television on this forthcoming Hulu Original,” said Craig Erwich, president of Hulu Originals and ABC Entertainment, back in July. “Gael, Diego and Marco are world-class storytellers, and we look forward to bringing audiences their story and experiencing alongside them this last shot their characters get together.”

Now, we’re wondering if the boxing video González posted on Instagram a couple of weeks ago has anything to do with the new series. Along with the footage, González wrote that she was working out with a sprained ankle.

Eiza González was last seen earlier this year in the action thriller Ambulance as an EMT whose emergency vehicle is hijacked by a pair of bank robbers. Next, she will star in two separate TV series – Extrapolations for AppleTV+ and The Three-Body Problem for Netflix. She will also play legendary Mexican actress Maria Félix in an upcoming biopic.
