Actor Eugenio Derbez continues to keep his followers on social media guessing as to the full story behind a project on late actor Roberto Gómez Bolaños, AKA Chespirito.

In a new video he recently posted online, Derbez shows an actor portraying one of Bolaños’ most well-known characters, El Chavo del Ocho, from the 1970s Mexican TV sitcom of the same name. Viewers see the character dressed in his familiar outfit (striped shirt, long khaki shorts, and plaid hat with flaps) and carrying a bundle on his shoulder.

The character is on the set of El Chavo del Ocho. He begins to move around awkwardly and makes funny noises like he did on the original series. Then he stops, breaks the fourth wall, and seems to notice someone that looks familiar to him. “Eugenio?,” El Chavo asks, looking outward.

The scene then cuts to Derbez sitting on a couch responding to the character recognizing him. “Chavo?” Derbez asks.

From our perspective, it almost looks like El Chavo is speaking from inside the TV screen and sees that Derbez is watching his show. Of course, this is all speculation since we have no idea what kind of project Derbez is cooking up. Is it a bioseries on Bolaños? Or maybe it’s some kind of remake of El Chavo del Ocho? For all we know, it could be a commercial for plaid hats with flaps.

The video of Eugenio Derbez ends by revealing that whatever the project is, it will be here by March 24, 2022. Earlier this week, Derbez teased fans with a behind-the-scenes video where El Chavo is seen on a production set. Viewers speculated that it was actor and comedian Juan Frese (La parodia a domicilio) wearing the Chavo costume, but there hasn’t been any official confirmation.
