Josh Segarra and his character Manny have been a fun addition to Abbott Elementary Season 3. But the actor, who a lot of people expected would be a possible love interest for Quinta Brunson’s Janine, has instead turned out to be just a friend. Segarra talked to Remezcla about coming in as Manny, Gregory and Janine’s romance and where he, Josh, stands on their potential relationship.

“Abbott was such a fun surprise to get,” Segarra shared. “I’m such a fan of the show, and now having gotten to know Quinta and Tyler and Chris and that whole crew over there, we just had such a good time.”

But Segarra understands that his character came in as someone who could potentially affect the dynamics. “You get to introduce a new character in Season 3 and get to see how this new instrument affects the band and how the rhythm changes,” felt special, he told us.

“I’m a fan first and foremost, so getting to walk into that set, going into the Warner Bros lot, seeing their school, seeing their opening credits montage, seeing that front of the school, you see their buses, getting to meet all the kids, it was a great experience and then of course getting to work closely with Quinta and getting to work closely with Tyler and get to play along with what they’ve got going on for these past couple of years, they will they/won’t they, to be one instrument in that was an honor.”

What Segarra didn’t expect was for people to really like Manny. Or, at least, for people to root for him. “If people were talking, that means we were doing a good job,” he told us. However, “I am team Gregory. As Josh, I am team Gregory.”

He went on to add, “So I can only imagine that, if after two seasons, I want Gregory and Jeanine to get together, and here comes this newbie from the District … so I don’t know about this guy. So, if people wanted us to get together, that´s fun. And if they didn’t want us to get together, I get it. I agree.”
