RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars Season 10 star Aja is well aware that this season is brimming with Latina representation.
The Brooklyn based drag artist caught up with Remezcla at the Premiere Party in NYC at Gitano for Season 10. And during our interview we talked about the 18 drag icons on the show. Because it isn’t just about this being the biggest cast All Stars has had yet. This is also a watershed moment for Latina representation on the show with nine queens having Latin American heritage.
“A lot of people don’t know that some of the girls is Puerto Rican, like Nicole Page Brooks from Atlanta, Georgia,” Aja said when we asked her about the huge amount of Latinas this season. Aja herself is Afro-Latina of Puerto Rican descent. She added, “Ginger Minj is also Puerto Rican.”
Joining them on All Stars Season 10 are the other Latina Queens Alyssa Hunter and Cynthia Lee Fontaine from Puerto Rico; Denali, who is of Mexican descent; Jorgeous and Mistress Isabelle Brooks, who are Mexican-American; and Olivia Lux, who is Afro-Puerto Rican.

“As an Afro-Latino woman, I am just so happy to be a representative for my communities, especially as a queer person and someone who’s just such a intersection,” Aja said, before adding a tiny caveat. Because for the Latin American community, it’s important to remember that we’re not a monolith. “I love that representation but I do wish there was a few more darker skinned girls on the cast.”
But Aja is also aware that sometimes schedules don’t match up for the Queens. And that’s ok too. ” Shit happens. And there’s girls who maybe wasn’t available, schedules, everything. I can’t wait to see more darker skin girls on this show. […] But for the girls who came here, all the Latinas and the Black girls that showed up for this competition, they ate it. They are all beautiful. And bitch, we turned it, no shame.”
For now, Aja is just living in the moment on RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars Season 10, having made it past the first bracket and on her way to the semi-finals.
