EXCLUSIVE: Ralph Barbosa Comedy Special Coming to Hulu — Watch the Trailer

If you like laughs, Ralph Barbosa is bringing some very soon. The comedian has set a new Hulu comedy special, which will premiere August 8. The hour-long standup special, Barbosa’s second on a streaming platform, will see the comedian share his adventures in dating, controlling his temper, working on cars, and his views on current events. All from a perspective that feels very much from our communities.
The trailer for the new special, titled, Ralph Barbosa: Planet Bosa, sees Barbosa follow up his first Netflix special, Cowabunga, with riffs on dating misfires, anime references, fatherhood, family quirks, growing up in Dallas, and fixing up old cars. The special was filmed at Balboa Theatre in San Diego, and is the tenth original in Hulu’s new stand-up comedy slate, Hularious.
In the trailer, we see Barbosa joke about his height: “I’m almost 5 ‘7” he says, only to then remark that he’s not, and if he were he would not be doing comedy. “Why would I need to impress people? I’d be grown” he says to laughs. But he’s also making fun of himself. “Don’t ever leave my show thinking you learned something,” Barbosa also warns. Hopefully, you’ll have fun, though.
Barbosa was named one of Variety and Vulture’s Comics to Watch. He was the winner of the New York Latino Film Festival Stand-Up Competition and was selected for Just for Laughs: New Faces. Barbosa also hosted the HBO Max special Entre Nos: The Winners 3. The comedian is perhaps better known for his chill and understated style of comedy, which promises to be bigger in scope in his second special.
