How many Christmas trees do a Latine family need in their household during the holiday season? It depends on the Latine family, apparently. Over at Cardi B’s home, it’s at least five. It’s a bit different when you’re celebrating on Lopez vs. Lopez.
In a special sneak peek clip for the Christmas episode titled “Lopez vs. Christmas,” George’s ex-wife Rosie (Selenis Leyva), daughter Mayan (Mayan Lopez) and grandson Chance (Brice Gonzalez) are preparing for Nochebuena, the Latine version of Christmas Eve, which is, in many cases, a bigger celebration than Christmas Day.
It’s during the preparation of Nochebuena that audiences find out that to observe the holiday appropriately, Rosie needs to have two Christmas trees in the house. When Mayan tells her they shouldn’t go overboard with Christmas this year and that they should only have one tree in the house, Rosie gets a stern look on her face and delivers the perfect answer. “One is for Santa, and one is for Jesus,” she says.
She adds: “It’s his birthday! Oh, should I throw away the cake that I made for him, too?!”
Later in the episode, audiences will get to see some of the cast members of the original George Lopez show from the 2000s reunite with Lopez and his new TV family. Joining the celebration as special guests are Constance Marie (Angie), Valente Rodriguez (Ernie), Luis Armand Garcia (Max), and Belita Moreno (Benny).
“Lopez vs. Christmas,” the Christmas episode of the debut season of Lopez vs. Lopez, airs Friday (December 16) at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
