Cristo Fernández is making his way to the happiest street in the world. The Ted Lasso star will be making a stop on Sesame Street on September 15th to celebrate the beginning of Our Heritage Month.

In an exclusive clip provided to Remezcla, Fernández is seen teaching Elmo the word “orgulloso” aka “pride” and talking about how he is proud to be Latino, to be Mexican, and to be himself. “Let’s celebrate our heritage and always be orgullosos of who we are,” Fernández says before giving Elmo the cutest hug ever.

This is an important word every day, but it’s especially important for our communities as the month meant to celebrate who and what we are gets started. And on Our Heritage Month, it’s important to remember that Latinos are not a monolith and it is possible to celebrate a community while also recognizing and uplifting their differences.

Fernández’s appearance on Sesame Street follows other big Latino names who have appeared on the show, like Rosie Perez. The Now & Then star was on the show last year to reach Grover the word “resilience.” Meanwhile, The Rings of Power star Ismael Cruz Córdoba was actually a semi-regular character on the show in one of his first roles in Hollywood.

Earlier this year, Fernández’s former Ted Lasso co-star, Brett Goldstein, also appeared on Sesame Street, alongside Oscar the Grouch. They played hide-and-seek and had an eyebrow face-off. That made as much sense – for Goldstein and his Ted Lasso character, Roy Kent – as Fernández being here now with Elmo makes for him and for Dani Rojas, the character that made him famous.

And if he can teach us how to be proud of our heritage to start off Our Heritage Month right, then even better.
