Meet Gloria, Ines, Cam, and Demi, the “new core four” in Netflix’s upcoming YA comedy series Freeridge. The series is a spin-off of On My Block and is named after the inner-city neighborhood in Los Angeles where the teenage characters live.

Netflix describes Freeridge as “a coming-of-age comedy following sibling rivals Gloria and Ines and their friends Demi and Cameron who have unleashed a curse bringing dark misfortune into their lives.”

Gloria, Ines, Cam, and Demi are played by Keyla Monterroso Mejia (Abbott Elementary), Bryana Salaz (Team Kaylie), Tenzing Norgay Trainor (Boo, Bitch), and Ciara Riley Wilson (L.A.’s Finest).

The first-look images for Freeridge released Friday morning (December 6) should give On My Block fans a boost after the original series ended in 2021.

The images include one where “the new core four” are walking together and looking very serious at something ahead of them. Cam is wearing rubber gloves and holding a mysterious box with the initials “MM” printed on it. In another photo, the foursome is eating lunch outside and screaming like they’ve just seen a ghost.

Lauren Iungerich, who serves as the showrunner, co-creator, and executive producer, said that the spin-off will allow the new cast of characters to experience their own adventures.

“The new core four of Freeridge don’t step into the shoes of our original [On My Block] crew,” she said. “They step into their own shoes, right alongside the legacy of the kids who came before them. Through the lens of this new group of friends, we’ll see Freeridge as we know it and also explore a Freeridge we haven’t seen before.”

We’ll see if Freeridge can walk the same walk as its predecessor when it premieres on Netflix on February 2, 2023.
