Golden Globes: Gina Rodriguez’s Win Made Us Cry and Jeremy Renner’s J-Lo Joke Made Us Cringe

For some viewers, the 2015 Golden Globes ceremony went on and on and — well, you get the picture. But for Latin@s worldwide, time stopped when Jane the Virgin’s Gina Rodriguez picked up the Best Actress in a Comedy Series statuette. We started celebrating immediately because this was a historic win: it was Rodriguez’s first nomination, and her award is also the first major award for Jane the Virgin’s network, the CW. She is the second Latina to win in this category, following in the footsteps of la fea mas bella, America Ferrera. (Watch her acceptance speech here. WARNING: You will most definitely cry.)

The other Latino nominees who took home the gold were Birdman writers Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu, Nicolás Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris, and Armando Bo for Best Screenplay. Iñárritu and Co. will be seen everywhere during awards season; look for them at the BAFTAs next.

And what did our gente have to say about the wins and the ceremony (aside from the requisite #SiSePuede)? Read on and then share your thoughts in the comments!

Ryan Guzman — who walked the red carpet with his The Boy Next Door co-star, Jennifer Lopez — congratulated Rodriguez in a lovely, heartfelt message:

Lots of other Latino entertainers were also beaming with pride:

Some Latin@s became converts to the cult of St. Gina — er, Jane:

Remezcla film editor, Vanessa Erazo, was one of many who were charmed by Iñárritu’s acceptance speech:

But though we were delighted with the wins, we were already thinking about next year and the turning of the tide:

Jeremy Renner made a dumb joke about J-Lo’s breasts and their resemblance to the Globes they were handing out.

Some people didn’t think his sexist remark was very funny:

And Kevin Hart forgot how to count while presenting an award with Salma Hayek:

The night closed with the Best Actor award, which went to Michael Keaton. Fellow nominee, Joaquin Phoenix was tired of hearing about Birdman, or maybe just tired, and did his best Grumpy Cat impression.

Congratulations to all the winners and nominees! We’ll see you next year!
