If you have family members or friends who enjoy going to the movies but would prefer to watch DC’s Blue Beetle starring Xolo Maridueña (Cobra Kai) in Spanish, there’s an app for that. TheaterEars is an app that allows moviegoers to use their smartphone and a pair of earbuds to enjoy their movies in Spanish.

The app works in movie theaters in the U.S. and Puerto Rico where a TheaterEars movie is screening. TheaterEars’ first nationwide movie was the 2017 Oscar-winning animated film, Coco. Currently, the app has more than 1.5 million registered users.

“Shared family experiences are paramount in my household,” said TheaterEars global ambassador and Oscar-nominee Lin-Manuel Miranda (Moana). “As a member of the Latinx diaspora, English is not the only language spoken at home and in my family. Being able to go to see a movie as a family, thanks to TheaterEars, has opened a whole new world of entertainment for us to enjoy and discuss together regardless of ability to understand English.”

Along with Coco, other movies that have been released for the TheaterEars app include The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Avatar: The Way of Water, Top Gun: Maverick, and Barbie

TheaterEars is free to download on the App Store and Google Play. For more information, visit theaterears.com.

Blue Beetle premieres at theaters nationwide on August 18, 2023.
